Al Noor, is a charity agency for the needy & non governmental organisation (NGO) operating in the Zanzibar islands of Tanzania. Al Noor started in the early 1990’s on a small project basis. Over the years our activities have grown at an incredible rate, and in September 2003 we officially registered with the Zanzibar government as a charity, certificate registration No. 253, under the societies act No. 6 of 1995.
Over the years our organisation has built numerous islamic centres, masjids, madrasas (Qur’an schools), and waterwells. We have also been involved in the supply & distribution of food supplies, dates and other food items during Ramadhan. We also distribute Zakat which is entrusted with, sponsoring students and teachers for higher studies (both secular and religious education). There has been much additional work in the efforts to send the teachers for Hajj.
Al Noor operates with a vision to promote the islamic way of life and to offer assistance to the less privileged inhabitants of Zanzibar. Our organisation recognises the fact that there is an urgent need to bring relief to the destitute Muslim communities here on the basis of basic humanitarian and islamic grounds.
We understand that it is very crucial to expedite the process of donations to destitute muslims, with an intensive, systematic approach based on an established network of islamic centres. The organisation makes great efforts to ensure that dispensaries and schools are built to provide free medical care and education.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once had several coins that he asked his wife to distribute in charity. But due to the Prophet’s illness at the time, she did not have an opportunity to give out the coins.
When the Prophet learned of this, he asked for the coins, placed them in his hand, and then said: “What would God's Prophet think if he were to meet God, who is Great and Glorious, while (still) possessing these?”
