Ramadan is an Islamic religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar; the month in which the Qur’an, according to tradition, was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims do not eat or drink anything from true dawn until sunset.
Fasting is meant to teach the person patience, modesty and sprituality. Ramadhan is a time to fast for the sake of Allah, and to offer more prayer than usual. Muslims also believe through good actions, they get rewarded twice than they normally can achieve. During Ramadhan, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance and help in refraining from everyday evils, and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds.
Every year we receive dates (TAMAR), food items, new and used cloths, and Al Noor is entrusted to distribute both Zakat and Sadaqat money.
The orphans in our care get the first priority, to be followed by the Madrasa teachers and Imams who are also very poor people and their honesty and dedication have been tested and proven over time. Others on our priority list are poor elderly and other destitute people of Zanzibar.
With your support Al Noor will work to source, pack and distribute Ramadhan gifts to the poor community, and full audit is available on handling of the given items.
