Our History and Vision
In the early 1990’s, Al Noor began on a small project basis, providing assistance to the poor and needed across Zanzibar Islands. Through hard work, commitment, and the generous support of so many people, our operations grew over the years, and in September 2003, Al Noor was officially registered with the Zanzibar government as a charity, certificate registration No. 253, under the societies act No. 6 of 1995.
From our humble beginnings to our growth as a fully registered charity serving thousands of needy individuals, our mission has always been the same: to break the vicious chains of poverty and powerlessness through education with an Islamic approach.
Thanks to our modest origins, we have learned how to truly get the most from our resources. When you give to Al Noor, you can do so with confidence, knowing that your donations will go directly to those who need it most. You can be completely assured that anything you give will go a long way. Even the smallest donation is enough to help save and transform someone’s life.
Our Work
Over the years, we have helped provide new wells and clean drinking water to poor villages, saved hundreds of orphans from homelessness, a built numerous Islamic centres, masjids, and madrasas (schools). We have also overseen the distribution of Ramadhan gifts to the poor, gifts that include dates (TAMAR), food items, new and used clothes, and Al Zakat and Sadaqat money. Additionally, we sponsor poor, deserving individuals every year on the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca (Makkah).
Today, Al Noor continues to serve the poor and destitute people of the Zanzibar Islands through our wide range of programs . Countless people across the region have and continue to benefit from Al Noor’s work. None of this would be possible without your support. Thanks to your generous donations, our work is able to continue.
But the fight against poverty is far from over. We will continue to fight the good fight, and we hope you’ll join us with your support. Click here to learn how you can help support our work to transform lives by breaking the chains of poverty → .
